Qt For Mac Uninstall

There are a few issues here but I'm rolling them into one because they're part of one task: to be able to build 64 bit Mac Qt apps from the command line without using a chunky IDE. I'm not developing these apps, just testing them.

So first step, I'm trying to download the 64 bit standalone Qt libraries for OS X. I eventually find this page behind the LGPL tab on the downloads page:

First annoyance, it automatically starts downloading 'Qt for Open Source C++ development on Mac OS X (Carbon 32-bit)'

I stop the download and scan through the list of alternatives to find this:

Official documentation. Refer to the official docs to get started on macOS. Development happens in the 5.15 and dev branches of the pyside-setup repository.The top level repository has the following submodules.

Uninstall and Reinstall QtSDK on Mac system. Click the Continue button, the the Uninstall button to confirm. Qt SDK will be uninstalled and QtSDK directory will be removed. Run the QtSDK installer if reinstallation is needed. In the installation dialog window, make sure to check the box 'Remove the old Qt Creator's setting'. Type./configure -help to get a list of all available options. Note that you will need to specify -universal if you want to build universal binaries, and also supply a path to the -sdk option if your development machine has a PowerPC CPU. By default, Qt is built as a framework, but you can built it as a set of dynamic libraries (dylibs) by specifying the -no-framework option. I'm running Sierra on my MacBook Pro. QuickTime does not run properly and is using valuable space. How can I remove it? I tried taking it from the App folder and putting it in the trash but, I received this message, 'QuickTime Player” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by macOS.' There has to be a back door way to remove this.

Mac binary package using Cocoa for Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.6 (32-bit and 64-bit)

This looks right, so I download the debug-libs and run the installer which greets me like this:

Welcome to the Qt installer! This will guide you through the steps to getting Qt 4.6 Opensource Edition installed on your machine!

After a successful install, you can find most new things in /Developer. Specifically things will be located in the following places:

• Qt Designer, Qt Linguist: /Developer/Applications/Qt
• Qt Documentation: /Developer/Documentation/Qt
• Qt Examples: /Developer/Examples/Qt
• Qt Plugins: /Developer/Applications/Qt/Plugins
• Qt Frameworks: /Library/Frameworks
• Qt Libraries: /usr/lib
• qmake, moc, uic, etc.: /Developer/Tools/Qt (symlink to /usr/bin)
• Uninstall script: /Developer/Tools/uninstall-qt.py

if you have any issues.

I check the list of files included in the installer (Cmd-I) and notice that of the above stated list of contents only the following are present:

• Uninstall script: /Developer/Tools/uninstall-qt.py (phew!)
• Qt Frameworks: /Library/Frameworks
• Qt Libraries: /usr/lib

The contents are correct, and match the expectation given on the website for the download, but the installer greeting text is wrong. In particular to my issue, the installer does not include:

• qmake, moc, uic, etc.: /Developer/Tools/Qt (symlink to /usr/bin)

This is particularly misleading because to accomplish my task, I do need to separately get my hands on these developer tools in a standalone fashion, but I can't find a way to do that. They're also not included with the standalone Qt Creator.app.

It seems the only way is for me to get the monolithic SDK, which comes with 32 bit libs, and includes all sorts of IDEs and apps that I don't need, and then to install the 64bit libs on top of that.

If possible, I'd like to see a link on the 'Development Tools' page (http://qt.nokia.com/products/developer-tools) under the 'Cross-Platform Build Tool' heading where I can just download the build tools separately.

A notice to all of our users and supporters

We began the Perian project over 6 years ago. We wanted to simplify viewing your content. Our team has attained that goal and with that in mind, Perian will be retired soon. Our stewardship has been a blast but it's time for all of us to move on.

From the beginning we kept Perian simple. Our preferences were minimal, updating was easy, and we gradually grew the product to add in extras like subtitles and different formats. We've contributed a lot. Today, Perian stands as complete as it ever will be under our stewardship.

There are some projects that we never got to. As an example, we would have liked an official, flexible, and well-documented import API to speed up MKV. We hit a brick wall there. Still, we reached a great stopping point and Perian's installed userbase proves how valuable this tool became to so many people.

Starting 90 days after the final Perian release, we will no longer provide support. We'll wrap up our loose ends, pack up our bags, and move on to new and exciting projects.

Here's what our roadmap looks like:

• We will soon release the final version of Perian, including all the fixes we've worked on since the last release. It may -- or may not -- work on 10.8.
• We will post the source code to either Google Code or Github.

Here's what we're looking for from you, our users

• Download Niceplayer , it's pretty great -- and those folks are doing a fantastic job.
• Support each other on our Google Group list . We mean this. Just because we aren't helping anymore on a regular basis, that doesn't mean that you can't.
• Are you a developer? Pick up where we left off. Join us on #perian on irc.freenode.net. Yeah, we're all pretty busy -- so stick around after asking your question. You may have to wait a bit for an answer. Chalk it up to asynchronous tech support.

A final word: If and when Perian stops working, try looking into VLC or MPlayer OS X. Sure, they're not Perian, but they offer great software still under development.
